[ScubaDiving] The Sea of Okinawa’s Kerama Islands is So Beautiful!

Translated by Deepl

During my trip to Okinawa in May 2018, I took a scuba diving open water license course casually and found that diving is fun, so I went back to Okinawa on the next consecutive holidays to get an advanced open water license.

I was able to shoot video during the course, so I am diving with a GoPro. the GoPro is waterproof in shallow water, but when it gets as deep as diving, it can’t withstand the water pressure, so I am diving with a housing on.

It took less than an hour boat ride from Naha to the dive site for the dive! The AOW class was a two-day course.

Diving Spots

The following is a map of the diving spots, although it is a little bit complicated. The Kerama Islands of Okinawa are about an hour west of Naha by pleasure boat. The boat is prepared by the dive store and leaves around 8:00 a.m., so it tends to be early in the morning.

You will dive three dive sites in one day: Kuehu Island, Naganu Island, and Kamiyama Labyrinth on the first day, and Touma, Nozaki, and Kuroshima North on the second day. The dive store will decide where to dive.

I bought a diving computer, aka dicon, from this AOW to start diving. I chose it because it is solar-charged and can be linked to my smartphone via Bluetooth (it cost about 100,000 yen…).

I purchased a TUSA IQ1204, which is quite useful and still in use today. It automatically starts measuring the water pressure when you dive, measures the dive time and depth, and also measures the rate of ascent to prevent decompression sickness due to sudden ascent, and gives you an alarm if you ascend too fast. It also measures the time it takes to return to the boat at the end of each dive, when you have to wait a few minutes at a shallow depth to regain your body pressure. It is the next tool I want after a diving mask in scuba.

The area in the photo with the icon Data Linked is where Daikon will automatically enter the data. The rest of the data is done manually, so I made sure to keep track of it.

I want to travel all over Japan! With this in mind, I am always looking for places to visit when I have long vacations.
I would like to leave some of the videos and photos I have taken as a record of my travels.
In addition to travel, I also enjoy astrophotography and scuba videos.
