Diary
Matsuyama, Ehime – Kannoji, Kagawa [clear]
Wake up at 6:00 a.m. at the hotel. After servicing the bicycle in the morning, I departed. The destination was changed to Kagawa. The reason is to leave my luggage at my parents’ house in Kagawa because it is heavy.
Instead of going to Route 11 from Matsuyama, I decided to return to Imabari, so I had to take the same road for about 45 km as yesterday. For lunch, I went to Kazahayanosato Fuwari Roadside Station as yesterday, but the restaurant in the station was closed, so I had SANGOSYO Curry at a cafe across the road. 600 yen (at the time).

The rest of the trip was just eastward, to Imabari City, Saijo City, Niihama City, Shikokuchuo City, and Kanonji City.
To be honest, there was nothing in Saijo City, and the roads were narrow and a bit of a climb.

Niihama city was very easy to drive because the roadside strip was wide enough for one car and there were few unevenness. we did not go through Route 11 but took Prefectural Road No. 13 along the sea. Just before passing through Niihama, we bought and ate rice at Maruyoshi and headed for the roadside station “Toyohama”. The mountain road continued all the way along the way, and when I kept climbing up to a height of about 150 meters, I was worried about what to do at night. Would I still be able to go down the hill after dark? Or would I sleep next to the road? I was wondering which way to go….

Eventually, I made it up the hill before I had to worry about it and decided to go down. The descent was great.
As for where to stay, I thought about staying at a manga cafe on the way to the hotel, but decided against it because the price was cheaper only after 22:00 (it was 20:00 at that time). The price at that time was 1980 yen for 9 hours until 22:00, and 1580 yen for 9 hours from 22:00 to 22:00, which seems a little expensive even now that the price has increased in 2024…. By the way, I forgot which comic cafe it was….
I arrived at Toyohama, a roadside station, at 21:00. From here, I was in Kagawa! This roadside station is very spacious, and at that time there was a Poplar next to it, which was a great place! I heard that the sunset is good, but it was naturally dark at 21:00. It was no use. Here I met a man named Mr. Kawamura (52). He is a very knowledgeable person who has cycled around Shikoku many times and has also toured Japan. He gave me a lot of advice. He told us how to maintain our bicycles, the importance of bicycle maintenance, where to stay at a roadside station or at a park after getting permission from the station staff, to go clockwise around Shikoku and counterclockwise around Hokkaido, and to decide our near, medium, and far destinations in the morning. Mr. Kawamura is going around Japan with a donkey in March and April 2010. We would like to support him!

There was also a very prominent love hotel along Route 11. It is Kingdom XO, and appears to have closed at the end of March 2024.
